The installation of the S-GR sliding glass roof at Nana Princess Suites Villas & Spa in Hersonissos, Crete, presented both a technical and architectural challenge, which enhanced the complex’s indoor pool area. The new roof allows guests to enjoy natural light and breathtaking views, while also protecting the interior space from external weather conditions.
The roof consists of double-glazed windows that are energy-efficient and provide high levels of safety. The use of energy-efficient glass ensures excellent thermal insulation, while the safety glass protects the area from potential accidents or damage. The sliding construction allows for easy opening and closing of the glass panels, enabling users to adjust the pool’s coverage according to weather conditions.
The roof does not follow the traditional rectangular layout but has an irregular shape at the front, offering a unique aesthetic result. However, this irregular shape, when combined with the necessary slope for proper water drainage, increases the complexity of the construction and installation of the roof.
The beams, which exceed 9 meters in length, were one of the most demanding factors of the project. The irregular geometry of the roof required special attention in the construction and calculation of the beams. Each beam had a different cut at the angles, as it had to fit perfectly with the shape of the roof and ensure its proper functioning.
The installation of the large glass panes was also one of the major challenges of the project. Safely transporting and placing these large glass panels required specialized equipment and very careful work to ensure their integrity during installation.
