In the heart of Agios Nikolaos, on the eastern coast of Crete, Minos Palace Hotel & Suites stands as a landmark destination for luxury hospitality. Within this demanding architectural setting, Salinox undertook the realization of a project of particular technical and design significance: the creation of a pool area that seamlessly merges open sky views with protection and energy-conscious functionality through a state-of-the-art glass roofing system.
Five Independent F.O.S. lite+ Systems
The proposed solution involved the installation of five independent sliding roof systems of the F.O.S. lite+ type, specifically designed to fully cover the pool area. Each system is composed of an aluminum frame, coated with electrostatic exterior-grade paint, and double-glazed energy-efficient glass of the latest generation, offering thermal comfort, brightness, and long-lasting durability.
Integration into the Architectural Design
One of the project’s key strengths was the subtle integration of the roof systems into the existing architecture of the hotel. Each glass unit was precisely embedded between wooden beams, highlighting the natural character of the space and creating a smooth visual transition from natural to constructed elements. The system enhances the space’s minimalist aesthetic without overpowering it.
Sliding Roofs with 50% Opening Control
Each unit operates independently, with a high-precision electric mechanism that allows the roof to open up to 50% of the total span. This enables natural ventilation, abundant daylight, and a pleasant indoor climate in the pool area. The electric operation ensures ease of use, making it ideal for luxury hotel environments, spas, and wellness areas.
Pool with an Open-Sky Connection
The result is a bright and airy swimming area that exudes tranquility and luxury. Guests of the hotel can enjoy the water experience under natural daylight or even beneath the stars, while always remaining protected from changing weather conditions when needed.
